Le cycle de conférences, développé dans le cadre du projet de recherche Images animées, mémoires controversées [CINEMAF], engage une réflexion artistique sur les questions de remédiation, d'analyse et de réutilisation de matériaux filmiques produits dans des contextes historiques controversés. Conçu comme un espace d'échange entre artistes, chercheur.e.s et conservateur.ice.s, il explore les gestes et les formes artistiques à travers lesquelles s’esquissent et se reformulent les traces matérielles de l’histoire coloniale.

Cette année, le séminaire partage les recherches artistiques expérimentées autour des autochromes et des films tournés par le père Francis Aupiais et Frédéric Gadmer au Dahomey en 1930. Ces images fixes et animées ont fait l’objet d’expérimentations formelles inédites à l’occasion d’un workshop organisé par la SO Academy grâce au soutien du Center for the Less Good Idea Fondé par William Kentridge et Bronwyn Lace en novembre 2016. 

Les sessions organisées au musée départemental Albert-Kahn et à l’université Paris 8 explorent les fils tissés, autour et à partir de ces images « mouvantes » pour en partager la résonance complexe et paradoxale.

The series of conferences, developed within the framework of the research project Animated Images, Controversial Memories [CINEMAF], engages in an artistic reflection on the issues of remediation, analysis and reuse of filmic materials produced in controversial historical contexts. Conceived as a space for exchange between artists, curators and scholars, it explores the gestures and artistic forms through which the material traces of colonial history are sketched out and reformulated.

This year, the seminar shares the artistic research experimented with autochromes and films shot by Father Francis Aupiais and Frédéric Gadmer in Dahomey in 1930. These still and moving images were the subject of new formal experiments during a workshop organised by the SO Academy with the support of the Center for the Less Good Idea founded by William Kentridge and Bronwyn Lace in November 2016. 

The sessions organised at the Musée Départemental Albert-Kahn and at the University of Paris 8 explore the threads woven around and from these 'moving' images to share their complex and paradoxical resonance.
