The WikiPatrimoine project—WikiHeritage in English—aims to study and to encourage new forms of online collaborative management of cultural heritage. This project starts from the double observation that (a) numerous cultural institutions in France (notably internal to the Pasts in the present cluster of excellence) and abroad have experimented with the transformation of cultural heritage inventories in transparent documents, open and participatory, available on the Internet through crowdsourcing and wiki-like platforms (e.g., Wikipedia) and that (b) cultural heritage professionals’ and citizens’ realization of the possibilities offered by these experiments in collaborative management online is further decreased. The project aims to:
- Define a clear picture of the online collaborative management of cultural heritage in France, paying particular attention to the cluster’s scope, and with an eye to comparative and international approaches;
- Study the impact of collaborative management approaches online on the very definition of heritage through an empirical study of new professional collaborative practices and of the digital writings they generate;
- Construct a network to share reflections and experiences between the cluster’s partners apropos the collaborative management of heritage on the web, in facilitating the exchanges between researchers and heritage professionals and the definition of a common road map on the subject;
- Integrate modules on collaborative management on the web into the curriculum of the University of Paris Nanterre and in the continuing education for heritage professionals—and starting reflection that will lead to the creation of a thematically linked master’s degree.
