The University Seen Through Its Archives: Meeting Minutes, Scientific Reports, and Registration Procedures (1964-2020) (ARCHIVU)
The ArchivU project that was presented as part of the Labex call for projects in November 2019 aims to study the transformations of the university as an institution and its scientific work since the establishment of the university as we know it in the 1970s. It takes an unprecedented approach using the discursive analysis of two kinds of textual material: the minutes from meetings and scientific reports. This project, which brings together linguists, philosophers, historians, sociologists, and museum curators aims to propose pluri-disciplinary approaches to these two discursive exercises, the history of which are preserved in the university archives. The objective is to simultaneously investigate the recent history of an institution of knowledge (the university), as well as the writing and recording practices it implements regarding its own activities, and the use of a sort of Foucauldian “disciplinary power” applied here not to bodies but to university discourses, knowledge, and practices. The project considers cooperation between researchers from the university on the one hand and curators and archivists working in heritage institutions on the other as fundamental, and is specifically focused on archival sources that are as yet essentially unstudied, which constitute its primary corpus.
