Transatlantic. Memory politics and transmissions of the past. Reflections on the international dissemination of memorial and heritage themes
Resulting from a preparatory project in 2014, “Transatlantic” proposes to develop a network of collaborations between French and Latin American partners (notably the Núcleo de Estudios sobre Memoria) around the politics of memory, heritage activities, and ordinary relationships with the past. It hypothesizes that the “globalization of memory” does not take into account the diverse contextualities, causes and effects of traumatic pasts, nor the local dynamics of the past.
The collaborating teams intend to: (a) study the spaces of memory and the mechanisms of mediating history, particularly museums; (b) explore the archives of dictatorships, their production, their legal framework, and their judicial uses, while spurring; and (c) empower the creation of oral archives; and (c) to study the vectors of transmitting ssion and the internationally disseminating diffusion of concepts, mechanisms, and actors.
The project features the research of several doctoral students already embedded in other cluster projects on these themes (notably Arnaud Figari, Julie Lavielle, Malena Bastias).
