A team of specialists in prehistory from CNRS and the University of Paris West Nanterre La Défense is making presentations at middle school and elementary school at Nanterre (2012-2013) and at Asnières (2013-2014) in order to teach ten- to twelve-year-olds the daily life of prehistoric humans. What did they eat? What were their dwellings like? How did they take care of themselves? The scientists respond playfully and interactively to these and many more questions. The students are led to reproduce gestures, imitate practices, and even produce a theatrical presentation to a larger audience (other schools, parents, etc.) including at events popularizing science, such as the Archeology Day and Science Fair. With this project, the cluster is able to study the students’ degree of knowledge acquisition about prehistory as well as the spin-offs of a scholarly mediation project orchestrated by researchers.
