The mediation of history, articulated with the notions of history, heritage and memory and linked with the digital humanities, is at the core of the Pasts in the Present cluster’s research. However, the cluster’s members conduct research in various fields of knowledge (sociology, ethnology, archaeology) and do not all have the same profession (researchers, librarians,archivists). Hence, they combine different practices and do not share, necessarily, the same understanding or way of questioning the quite recent notion of mediation of history.

As a consequence, the Workshop held on June 10th, 2013, sought to back the collective work within the cluster of excellence on a shared knowledge of the different meanings and uses of this notion. The workshop gave thus an opportunity for each of the participants to clarify this notion from the point of view of his/her practice and/or field of knowledge, to enrich it, to contextualize it, to put it into perspective.
